About Shogi Japanese Chess
Shogi Japanese Chess is an authentic digital recreation of traditional Japanese chess. Players command forces including Kings, Rooks, Bishops, Gold Generals, and Pawns across a 9x9 grid. The game features full drop mechanics where captured enemy pieces return to play as your own units, along with promotion zones for strategic depth.
How to play
On desktop, click a piece to highlight valid movement squares, then left-click target cells or drop captured units. Mobile players tap pieces and destination cells directly on screen. A frequent beginner mistake is forgetting that captured enemy pieces can be dropped anywhere on open board squares as your own units.
Tips
- Guard your King (Gyoku) by building strong Yagura or Mino castle defense structures early.
- Drop captured pawns into open columns to restrict enemy rook (Hisha) movement paths.
- Promote your bishop (Kaku) and rook immediately upon entering the enemy home three rows.
Who it's for
Tailored for strategy board game purists, chess enthusiasts, and fans of tactical Japanese chess mechanics. If it clicks with you, try Klondike Solitaire Paradise or Memory Cards next.
